Laptop Information
Morris Library Laptops are for SIUC Student Use Only. Students may check them out with a valid Student ID, their current student schedule, and by filling out our Student Laptop Registration and Agreement Form.
Laptop Policy
Basic Rules
- Laptops are reserved for current SIUC student use only.
- Each patron will be required to sign a Laptop Checkout Registration & Liability Form to enroll in the program and this form must be filled out at the Circulation Desk.
- Laptops may be checked out for the semester and are not eligible for a renewal. You can NOT renew these online.
- Never leave the laptop unattended or loan it to another individual. You are responsible for it the entire time it is in your possession.
- Save all personal files to a personal flash drive, other storage device, or send to your email account. Any files left on the hard drive will be deleted during the update of the machine. Neither SIUC nor Morris Library is responsible for the recovery of personal files saved on the laptop's hard drive.
- Laptops must be turned in to the Circulation Desk (1st floor) 15 minutes prior to library closing. These should never be turned in to a book drop.
- Laptops are not allowed to leave the country.
- Laptop, AC adapter and bag are all reviewed for damage at both check out and check in.
- When returned, a receipt will be emailed to your SIU email account.
- Patrons should promptly communicate all issues related to the laptop including: damage, theft, requests for extensions on due date, and renewals. Messages should be directed to the Head of Circulation, Marissa Ellermann.
Students that violate these the laptop agreement or fail to communicate with library staff in a timely manner may lose laptop privileges.

Fines
Lost Fines
Laptops Not Returned on the due date immediately go to Lost Status. This will result in a $1300 replacement fine being added to your bursar which is for the laptop, charger, and laptop bag. Return on time to avoid these hefty fines! No fines will be waived until all items are returned to the library.
Damage Charges
Damage charges are difficult to assess. We will repair in-house what we can, but if we have to send it out you will be fined for the full repair. If the cost exceeds the value of the laptop, we will charge you for the full replacement value.
