The physical space at Morris Library has been designed, in part, to enhance and extend the Library as a center of academic community and campus life: intellectual, social, cultural, and creative. To this end, a variety of spaces are available for use. Requests by non-affiliated groups may also be considered as identified in this policy.

The policies related to room usage at Morris Library are outlined below. All requests for exceptions and special permission must be received in writing and granted in writing by the Office of the Dean of Library Affairs. Requests MUST be given to our office at least seven days before the event will take place.

Who Can Use Event Space in Morris Library?

The following groups are eligible to request rooms and space at Morris Library. Affiliates may reserve space in the library without charge (if the space is available), with the exception of reservations outside of normal operating hours. A charge of $200 is incurred for events outside of normal hours and approval of the event by the Library Administration is required. For non-affiliates, the cost of space usage is as shown below in the room descriptions.

Affiliate vs. Non-Affiliate Groups

Affiliated groups as described in the first two items below:

  1. Organizations/units that are part of the University. Examples: Academic Colleges and Departments, Research Centers, and Operational Centers such as Physical Plant, Information Technology, and Financial Aid.
  2. Organizations or groups associated with the university. Examples: Alumni Association, Faculty Club, RSOs, SIU Foundation.

Other organizations (especially non-profit), whose primary mission and intended event/meeting is instructional or research-related are welcome to request event space. For these groups not directly affiliated with the university, there may be a charge (as explained below). If you are unsure, please contact the Library Administration Office at 618-453-2522.

The Library will give priority to requests from affiliated groups (1 and 2 above); requests from other organizations will be considered but will be subject to availability, ease of scheduling/ accommodation to library hours, and relevance of the proposed activity to the mission of the Library as a center of academic community and campus life.

Event Space Options and Fees

Morris Library has a number of rooms of different sizes and capabilities available to rent for SIUC affiliates and off-campus groups. View each to determine which meets your needs.

University Affiliates:

The Library welcomes campus organizations, University-affiliated groups, and public groups to hold meetings, workshops, special events, etc. in Morris Library. As of January, 2014, Morris Library does not charge fees for the rental of any of our event spaces to SIU campus affiliates. However, there are fees for non-SIU affiliated groups.

  • Read the Public Space and Room Usage Policy at Morris Library to ensure you understand the rules and regulations on using Library spaces.
  • Review the Event Space Options and Fees above to find the location that is appropriate for your event and find out the fees.
  • Please note: We require an event application to be submitted seven days in advance of an event. For events with alcohol, a minimum of two weeks advance notice is required due to the additional paperwork.
  • If you want a tour of the space before/after submitting your request, please contact the Library Administrative Office at 618-453-2522 to schedule a time.
  • Check the Events Calendar to see if your desired date(s) is available.
  • Library event hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm; Saturday event hours are 10:00am to 6:00pm and Sunday event hours are from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. (Events held outside of normal Library hours will incur an additional fee and will be approved on a case-by-case basis.)
  • Complete and submit the Event Space Application to the Library Administrative Office. You may download and email it to reservations@lib.siu.edu, fax it to us at 618-453-3440, or drop in off in Suite 290 of Morris Library. Please make sure to submit all supporting documentation (as appropriate) with the request form.
  • Interested in reserving the Faner Hall Auditorium and/or reception area for an event? Print and submit the Faner Hall event space application as above.

Non-Affiliate Groups:

Information Tables: Schedule Online

To reserve the space beside the bust of Abraham Lincoln near the north entrance to Morris Library, go to https://onlinescheduling.siu.edu/EmsWebApp/. Create an account on your first visit and then schedule your event any time! Please note that at this time only tables at Lincoln's Head are available for on-line reservations. The space at Lincoln's Head can also be reserved in the usual fashion as noted above. If you have difficulty creating an account on the online scheduling page, please check the help located on that page or contact the SIU Scheduling Office at 618-536-6633.
