Applications for the Emma Smith Hough Library Research Scholarship Awards, worth $1,500 or $2,000 to recipients, are now being accepted from SIU undergraduate and graduate students.

Three scholarships will be awarded for papers or other creative works based on exceptional use of library resources. The deadline for the 2017 application period is April 14, 2017.

Scholarship awards are:

  • $1,500 to a sophomore or junior researching in the Humanities, Fine Arts, or Social Sciences.
  • $1,500 to a sophomore or junior researching in the Sciences, Engineering, or Applied Technologies.
  • $2,000 to a graduate student researching in any discipline.

Undergraduate submissions must be from a sophomore or junior and must have been completed for an upper division (300 or 400) level credit course sometime during the preceding two semesters. Graduate submissions can be from any graduate class other than a final thesis or dissertation. Applicants must describe their use of library services on the application form. The application also requires students to solicit a letter of support from a faculty member. Winning papers will be submitted to the library’s Institutional Repository (OpenSIUC). Winners will be announced by May 12, 2017.
